Wedding Gown Checklist

Before Visiting a Bridal Boutique

  • Do some research on Wedding Gowns and Bridal Boutiques in your area.

Timing

  • Start searching early - less pressure helps you make the right choice.

Making Your Appointments

  • Check when you make the appointment if the shop provides shoes for you to wear while trying the gowns
  • Ask how long your appointment will be, this will range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Saturdays are always very busy, so if you can, make a week-day appointment.
  • Leave plenty of time to get from one boutique to another if visiting more than one boutique in a day.

What & Who to Take

  • Take a strapless bra with you and shoes if necessary.
  • If you have a piece of jewellery, a veil or tiara that you will be borrowing for your Big Day take that too.
  • Don't take more than 2 people with you, having input from too many people can be more hindrance than help.

At the Bridal Boutique

  • Keep an open mind and try as many gowns as you can in the time available.
  • Explain what you like and don't like about the gown
  • Ask about the cost of alterations
  • Ask about the timing and number of fittings
  • Ask about payment - how much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
  • Ask about gown storage, and how long before your Big Day you will have to collect your gown
  • If your wedding is abroad, ask how they will pack the gown for traveling
  • Check if you will receive a swatch of your gown fabric, you will need this for colour matching.
  • At the end of you consultation ask your consultant to provide detail of the gowns you liked
  • Check the lead-time for any shortlisted gowns
  • When you are revisiting your short-listed gowns, try them with different veils, tiaras & jewellery.

Making your Choice

  • Does the gown make you feel special?
  • Is it practical for the type of wedding you have planned?
  • Will the Boutique go that extra mile for you and did you feel comfortable with the consultants?
  • Would you prefer to purchase all your accessories and bridesmaid dresses at the same boutique as your gown? If yes, does the Boutique provide these?

Placing Your Order & Payment

  • Check payment details - how much is the deposit and when is the balance due?
  • You may wish to ask about the Terms & Conditions relating to the cancellation of your order.
  • If you are planning to pay by cheque ask if the cheque needs to clear before you can collect your gown.

Fittings

  • Check the options available, e.g. Made to Measure, alterations. This may vary by gown.
  • Ask about the number of fittings you will require
  • Check if you are able to make fitting appointments on a Saturday

Collection & Transportation

  • Check that your gown will be in an appropriate carrier
  • Check if you can park outside for the collection

On Your Big Day

  • Plan your day so you can take your time getting ready.
  • Your gown should be the last item you put on.
  • Allow at least 10 minutes with your gown and all your accessories on to relax and appreciate how stunning you look.
  • Enjoy your Big Day!
